Gilmore leads Panthers over Comets

by Seth Golob
baseball/basketball writer

PIKESVILLE-- After a tough loss to Overlea, the Panthers Men's basketball team bounced back with a ten point win over the Catonsville Comets on Monday (December 22nd), with a final score of 49-39. From the tip, it was a slow paced game, not to much scoring by either teams. Then Pikesville caught fire in the second quarter. The Panthers tenacious defense held the Comets to 3 second quarter points. At the half, the score was 21-13, in favor of PHS. The second half was much more up paced, the kind of basketball the Panthers like to play. Senior guard, Freddie Sellers was a true threat to the Comets, who could not stop Sellers, he scored 13 points. The big men of the squad didn't have their best game this year. Rasheed Salau had 4 points, Ian Lee, 4 points, and Jarrel Cox contributed with one basket. Devohn Gilmore once again had a steller overall game. Devohn had 17 points in the win and was a leader on defense causing multiple Catonsville turnovers. Gilmore scored 9 of the Panthers 11 second quarter points. The Comets leading scorers were, Jordan Pickney with 12 points, mostly coming off of his three 3 pointers, and Andy Coates, who contribute 12 points as well. The Panthers head into Winter Break with a 5 -3 record. The Panthers next game is January 7th, at home against the Landsdowne Vikings at 6:30 p.m.

OVERLEA--The Panthers lost to the Overlea Falcons, 87-70 yesterday (December 19th). Leading scorers for the Panthers were Devohn Gilmore with 17 points, Alfonzo Timmons with 17 points, and Freddie Sellers with 11 points. The Panthers made some good runs in the game, cutting the lead of the Falcons down to 2 points in the fourth quarter. The game was filled with nonstop offense provided by both teams. In the first half Junior Forward, Ian Lee commited three quick fouls, and Coach JaMarr Jackson put in Junior Desmond Davis, who ended the night with 4 points. Also in foul trouble was Center Jarell Cox, who was a force in the paint, Jarell scored 8 points. Senior captin, Rasheed Salau played tough against the Falcons, he ended the game with 10 points. The Falcons leading scorer was Palin, with 20 points. The Panthers look to bounce back with a win at home, this Monday against Catonsville High School.

Writers Note: I don't know how many of you know Corey Brown from Pikesville Middle, but he is the Maryland State leader in points as of today. Last night he scored 40, 42 and 52 in his last three games respectively. If you know him please congratulate him, and watch Corey and the Carver Wildcats play the Panthers at Pikesville on Friday, January 9th at 7 p.m.

This Week at Pikesville: Week of Dec 14

Sorry for no updates this week.
We have a couple scores from this week.

Boy's Basketball beat Park Monday, 60-47, but lost to rival Owings Mills 54-41 in a close game. The team is now 4-2 going into the game Friday at Overlea.

Girl's Basketball improved to a 4-0 record after beating rival Owings Mills 58-43 in a dog fight of a game, in which the Eagles led going into half time, but the Panthers pulled away at the end. They were lead by Senior Captain Melanie Osefo who recorded her first career double-double (16pts, 10rebs) and Junior Shonda Williams (19pts). The Lady Panthers are looking forward to Friday when they face Overlea at home at 7pm.

In Wrestling's loss last week to Owings Mills the team's only wins were pins by Seniors Ethan Schwartz (103) and Corbin Ellis (152) and decisions by junior Brian Prince (130) and sophomore Keon Writght (140). The team looks forward to a rematch with the Eagles in the Regional Duals when the team will be at full strength.
With senior Ben Baker (119), who returned to full strength this week after a minor cuncussion and missing the match last week, winning a decision and senior Corbin Ellis (152) scoring a pin in Thurdays match at Dundalk, the team improves to 1-1 with the 63-15 win.
Although much of the team did not compete Thursday night, the team prepares for the Perry Hall 20 begining Friday night and finishing Saturday. The Panthers are ranked 15th in the tournament-style draw. They hope to improve both their team and individual records as they try to advance into the later rounds, and also get to see some of the teams they will be competing against later in the season and in Regionals.

Indoor Track has competed in several meets so far, and several Panthers have placed or won, and I will have those results to you as soon as they become availible to me.

Introduction

Welcome To PANTHER'S POST!!

I came up with with idea almost an entire year ago.  My original idea was to publish a real website, and after spending some time designing that, and seeing the end of my high school sports career coming closer I realized that this would be a lot easier. However, in the back of my mind I hope that some day my notes will get into some capable hands and my ideas brought to fruition.

So what is Panther's Post?
I am an athlete. I enjoy watching sports and knowing about sports, and I consider myself to have a good amount of school spirit. Last year, near the end of fall sports, I found myself texting, IMing, and contacting in any other way possible, people from every sport to find out about their game. So, I decided that I would bring all of that information together on one site. (Note: this was all before "Digital Sports" existed)

I now set out to create a place that everyone at Pikesville, and the greater community, can go to get news about all the sports happenings at our school.

My plan
  1. Post the full schedules for winter sports now-ish
  2. Post updates the day before games/events
  3. Post scores as close to the end of games as possible
  4. Update records/standings whenever available
  5. Game summaries when available (by anyone who was in attendance or participant)
  6. Pictures and video when available
  7. Rosters
  8. And more
So as you can see, my vision for this site is grand and impossible for me to do it on my own.  I ask anyone with more ideas, wants to help out, or contribute content to comment on this page, find me during the day or email me at Panthers.Post@gmail.com or facebook me or call if you have my number.

And I hope the rest of you will visit again for more updates.
