This school was a very successful year in Pikesville High School Athletics. Starting with the football teams unforgetable run in the State Playoffs, to the Lacrosse team's State Championship.
This was also a year of firsts. Our Softball team won the Schools first ever Regional Championship, and we will have the first ever Softball banner hanging in the Gym next year. The Baseball team made its deepest run in the State Playoffs in school history.
Our Lacrosse program is as always, dominent. The Girls team made a run in the Playoffs once again. As we all know, the Boys Lacrosse Team won the State 1A/2A Championship, defeating Queen Anne's.
The Tennis team once again won the region and sent many athletes to the State Tournament in College Park. Paul Burgin finished 2nd in the State in the Singles Competition.
Overall, this year was one of the best in Pikesville High School History. The Class of 2009 will be missed, your school spirit and Athletism will be missed. For all of us at Panther's Post, we wish you good luck next year at College.

Girls Basketball Sends-off Seniors in Winning Fashion
Pikesville improved to 14-3 on the season with a win against Loch Raven tonight, 47-25 in an awsome send-off to the seniors in the teams Senior Night game. The Lady Panther's had great senior leadership from starters, Ilana Obuchowski, Emily Fine, Melanie Osefo, and Nicole Gibson. The team showed a combined effort with balanced scoring. They jumped to an early lead with two points from the foul line by senior Melanie Osefo, who continued to make a dominant showing, with a "double-double", including over 20 points.
After the game Coach David Clough held a short tribute to his five seniors, Ilana Obuchowski, Emily Fine, Melanie Osefo, Nicole Gibson, and Emily Fader. He spoke of the joy of working with the five seniors from JV up to Varsity, and seeing them mature and improve in all aspects of the game. His short speech about each girl brought a tear to several parents' eyes and was a testament to the team spirit that runs deep through out the entire team.
Although this was Pikesville's last regular season home game, the Lady Panthers hope to play several home games in the 1A Regional tournament with a high seed. They are also striving to participate in the team's first Baltimore County Championship game in school history.
Pikesville's next game is friday February 6 at Chesapeake at 7pm.

Pikesville Takes Down Sparrows Point in Senior Night Duel Meet
Pikesville beat Sparrows Point 63-9 with a lot of help from its seniors in their final home match of the season.
Josh Warren(215, senior) lead off the night for the Panthers adding several points to the board early with a win by forfeit.
Senior Davon Shambley(285) lost by decision in the last seconds in a long hard fought match.
Ethan Schwartz(103) set a winning tempo for the seniors tonight, winning his match by pin.
Senior Ben Baker(119) continued the pace set by Ethan. After a tough loss in the finals to Chris Hoffman of Aberdeen at this past weekend's Overlea Invitational, Ben got back to form with a win by pinning. He "toyed with him and then took him down in the fifth minute." Baker showed off his signature style, taking down his opponent and allowing him to get back up several times before finally pinning him in the third round.
Junior Blake Stein(125) was unable to piggy-back on the seniors' successes but his long time rival proved to be too much for him to handle tonight and lost by decision in tough match.
Junior Brian Prince(130) win by pin
Senior Brett Jacobson(135) win by pin
Senior Kion Wright(140) win by pin
Senior Corbin Ellis(152) win by pin
Junior Cyrus Fisher(145) win by decision
Senior Terrell Whitter(160) win by pin
Junior David Schectman(171) win by pin
Junior Robby Chazen(189) lost by decision
In an exhibition duel senior Josh Warren(215) avenged teammate Davon Shambley's loss by pinning Davon's opponent from earlier in the match.
There is no rest for the weary. After a tournament this past weekend, matches yesterday and today, Pikesville's next match is Thursday night at Landsdowne at 6:30.
However, they will have almost a full week off before the Maryland 1A/2A North Regional Duel Meet Tournement on Wednesday February 11, which Pikesville has qualified for with the win tonight, for the first time in school history.

by Seth Golob
Baseball/Basketball writer
PIKESVILLE-- On Tuesday night, January 13, the boys varsity basketball team lost by 11 to the visiting and defending state finalist, Randallstown Rams. The Panthers were led by Junior guard, Devohn Gilmore with 13 points. Gilmore has been the Panthers leading scorer all year, he currently averages 16.4 points per game. Seniors Freddie Sellers and Rasheed Salau showed leadership on the court. Sellers scored 11 points, and Salau, 2. Big man, Ian Lee was a beast on the boards, he added 4 points. Starting guard, Deondre Jackson hit his first two shots of the game, and ended it with 5 points. The Panthers in the third quarter led by 4, that was the most the Rams would let. At half time the score was tied, 24-24. But in the second half the Rams exploded, out scoring the Panthers in both the third and fourth quarters. The second half was owned by Pikesville's 6'4" Center, Jarell Cox. In the second half alone, Cox scored 10 points, with 8 of the 10 coming in the fourth quarter. Teams should beware of Jarell's hook shot, the Rams, had no awnser for him. At the final minutes, the Panthers kept fouling in hopes of scoring off the fouls. That didn't quiet work. The Rams made most of their free throws, sealing the deal for the Rams. The Rams leading scorers were Ryan Tyler (23) with 16 points, Malik Smalls (22) with 15, and Chaz Sharp (21) with 8. Randallstown shot 18 total field goals to the Panthers 20. Pikesville went 4 for 12 from the charity stripe. The final score was Pikesville 45, Randallstown 56. The Panthers look to get a "W" this Friday, January 16, at New Town High School at 7 p.m.

Panthers lose tough, contreversial game
by Seth Golob
Baseball/ Basketball writer
PIKESVILLE-- The Panthers lost to the Landsdowne Vikings on Wednesday night, 49-48. The starters of the game were guards, Dominique Spruill, Deondre Jackson, Freddie Sellers, Devohn Gilmore, and forward Rasheed Salau. It was a new look to the Panthers. Coach JaMarr Jackson then put in all five new players. Coach Jackson was trying out some new "teams", such as the Big Team that includes: Ian Lee. Rasheed Salau, Jarell Cox, Alfonzo Timmons, and Devohn Gilmore. In the Panthers first game of 2009, Gilmore made a splash, dropping 20 points, to lead all scorers. Doendre Jackson added 6, and Freddie Sellers, 3. Sellers also was the only Panther to foul out of the game. Rasheed Salau was a monster on the boards, he had 4 points. Jarell Cox was a force in the low paint, moving defenders aside, Jarell had 10 points. At the end of the game the Officials made some bad calls, or lack there of, such as an obvious charge against Dominique Spruill. When the game ended, the Officials were 'booed' off the court, and the gym was swiftly emptied. As a team the Panthers made half of their foul shots (4/8) and took a total of 21 shots. The Vikings were led by Brent Arrington and Patton LaGuerre, both with 12 points. The Panthers look to bounce back this Friday at home against the Carver Wildcats at 7 p.m.
